Cinema Talk: Ethic of Making
Join us for a conversation between Nonkululeko Mlangeni and Abdul Rehman, two practitioners exploring how textiles and craft in their own practice, with Mlangeni’s film Umkhosi Wezimbokodo and work with South African artisans and cultural heritage through The Ninevites, and Rehman’s film Ishq de Baajhon Bia Sabh Koorrh and research with craft and Indigenous communities across Pakistan. Together, we discuss how fashion might move beyond extraction and production towards reciprocal ways of making, where materials, makers and the more-than-human world are approached with care and responsibility.

Book Talk: Designing Textiles with the Beech Tree
In this interactive presentation, textile researchers Anna Wetzel and Pauline van Dongen reflect on their work about designing textiles with nature. For their project ‘Designing Shape Changing Textiles’ they investigate designing textiles by learning from the ecosystem of trees, specifically the beech tree, working with the veneer that comes from it. They reflect on the agency of natural matter and on the relationship between human beings and the specific ecosystem of the beech tree.
