Goldstadt

by Minerva Skyttä

Pforzheim, Germany a city renowned for its jewellery-making heritage, Skyttä created the work Goldstadt. The video was filmed in the Black Forest which borders the city.

Pearls and silver chains become part of the knitted structure, integrated directly into the garments during the making process. Working with a hand-knitting machine and without conventional garment patterns, Skyttä shapes and adapts each piece in dialogue with the material, experimenting with tension, texture and form.

The collection combines wool with paper yarns of varying thicknesses, bringing together traditional craftsmanship and contemporary fashion practices to create striking and unexpected visual compositions.

“A natural fibre is not automatically an ethical one. Animal welfare and traceability matter, and both can be difficult to verify when materials move through long international supply chains. This is one reason why I have become increasingly interested in local wool and shorter, more transparent production chains.”
