Cinema Talk - Ethic of Making

Join us for a conversation between Nonkululeko Mlangeni and Abdul Rehman, two practitioners exploring how textiles and craft in their own practice, with Mlangeni’s film Umkhosi Wezimbokodo and work with South African artisans and cultural heritage through The Ninevites, and Rehman’s film Ishq de Baajhon Bia Sabh Koorrh and research with craft and Indigenous communities across Pakistan. Together, we discuss how fashion might move beyond extraction and production towards reciprocal ways of making, where materials, makers and the more-than-human world are approached with care and responsibility.

Abdul Rehman is a Pakistani artist, designer and researcher working across textiles, clothing and moving image, exploring inherited craft knowledge and the relationships between material, community, land and the more-than-human world.

Nonkululeko Mlangeni is a South African textile artist and designer whose collaborative practice explores heritage, identity and cultural memory through textiles, craft and relationships with makers and communities.
