Bring a worn-out garment or accessory and turn it into a wearable work of art.
Inspired by the Japanese kintsugi technique, (W)HOLE celebrates the beauty of decay. Wear and tear isn’t hidden. It’s emphasised and made valuable.
Since 2020, textile designer Anneleen Bertels and master goldsmith Lindsey Fontijn have been building a dialogue between textile and metal. They reinvent the centuries-old craft of goldwork embroidery as a contemporary language: jewellerised textiles. With (W)HOLE they apply it to repair, turning damage into a place for care and meaning. Each repair holds a handmade jewellery bead, combining fragile fabric with durable precious metal.
The day
Introduction to their work and their vision on combining (precious) metals with textile
With Lindsey: make your own metal elements
With Anneleen: learn the embroidery techniques to work them into your garment as a visible repair
Work on your own piece, using thread and Japanese silver and gold threads that Anneleen also uses in her own work
Bring
A garment or accessory you want to repair
Optional: old metal pieces you’d like to work in, like brooches or medals
Included
Lunch
Materials
For who
Everyone who’s interested in craft, materials and the memories textile carries. No experience needed.
