“I started knitting because I have been always passionate about fashion, and I have always wanted to create my own clothes. Over more, knitting is an extremely calming activity, it puts me in a flow state and it helps me relax after a long day.”
When did you start knitting?
I started knitting and crochet around two years ago.
What technique did you use for your regional wool project?
I used a single bed knitting machine. By hanging different stitches on the machine’s needles, I could provide more volume to the vest and make it more ‘interesting’. This technique causes the selected rows to ‘collapse’ and curl up, providing a special texture to the top.
Did you try out a new technique while making your project? And would you use it again?
Yes, through this project I could experiment a different machine knitting technique. I would definitely use it again, especially when handling more think yarns such as the regional wool.
Can you write a short summary of your project?
I created two different tops with the regional wool. The first one is a vest with buttons running vertically and with a special texture created by dropping and hanging different stitches along the pattern. My second project is a tank top with buttons running asymmetrically.
How many hours did it take you to compete?
Four hours for each top
What was the inspiration for your project?
Especially for the vest, I wanted to mimic a corset and give it a ‘dreamy’ effect
What did you discover from using regional wool in your project?
The regional wool is thick and resistant, and gives a beautiful structure to garments.
What were the trial and error of the project?
The regional wool is so different from the type of yarns that I normally use. It took me sometime before I could come up with a design which could give it justice.
What does knitting do for you personally?
It provides me with a creative outlet to express myself after my 9 to 5 job.
