Wool Washing Intro Workshop

Learn how to clean raw wool in a way that’s gentle on the fibre, effective in removing unwanted smells and sand while still being respectful of our environment. Our goal is to prepare beautiful, clean wool while using water mindfully.

Raw fleece fresh from the sheep contains lanolin, dirt, sweat salts (suint), and vegetable matter. Cleaning it properly ensures better dye uptake and a smoother spinning experience. But traditional scouring can be water and chemical intensive. In this workshop, we’ll use a low-impact method. We will work with a wool washing station, specially designed for comfort and flow in cleaning the wool. Participants will work with wool expert, Pollyanna Moss, and hear the story of the sheep that the wool came from.
